INNOVATIVE METHODS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING: THE ROLE OF TECHNOLOGY

Abstract

The 21st century has witnessed remarkable transformations in the English language teaching (ELT) space that are attributed to the use of technology. This paper attempts to focus on the use of technology in ELT at a macro level, examining the use of specific technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR), gamification of education, and online learning. This study seeks to know how these technologies enable learners to receive customized instruction, motivates them during their studies, and gives feedback instantly. Moreover, itexpounds on the advantages and disadvantages of these emerging technologies in ELT with regard to their usage, accessibility, and literacy as well as privacy issues. This technology language learning article highlights the most proper approaches to its effective use and outlines possible further work in this field.
